Why breast cancer cases are increasing in India: Statistics and reasons
Breast cancer is one of the alarming diseases crippling the women population in India. The number of cases is increasing in both rural and urban part of the subcontinent. It is the most common cancer among the younger population. In India, the population represents a pyramid where the base represents the younger patients. It means that the number of cases will be higher in terms of percentage. It has been found that 1 in 25 women develop this cancer. The saddest part is one out of two dies. The mortality rate is almost 50% among the patients. Breast cancer in India As per CORE, the data suggest the following alarming information that we must keep in mind.
- Only 12.5% of the affected patients seek treatment in the early stages of breast cancer.
- 1.5 Lakh new cases appear every year.
- Breast cancer is witnessing the highest increase over the years in comparison to the other cancer cases.
- Nearly 1 out of 28 women are affected diagnosed with breast cancer during the early 30s. The highest cases are recorded in the age range of 50 – 64 years.
The most worrying part of this data is that most of the cases appear during the prime age of reproduction in India. It means that the women, during their reproductive age, get hit by the cancer. The degree of awareness is much less in India. An early diagnosis can cure this disease without causing too much damage. How the risk can be reduced?
- Lifestyle
Breast cancer is linked with various lifestyle factors such as obesity, age, menopause, smoking, IVF, alcohol consumption, etc. A healthy lifestyle with proper diet and no stress will definitely reduce the chances of breast cancer formation.
- Genetic disorder
A strong history of breast cancer running in the family is an alarm that one must not ignore. There is a high chance of cancer development when there is strong evidence of breast cancer occurring in the family tree. The two genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2 cause breast cancer when transferred to the progeny. On the other hand, the food we consume and the air we breathe are intoxicated with unwanted substances. Due to the heavy increase in the population, almost all the necessary things we need to live contain harmful chemicals affecting our physiological system immensely. Only proper awareness and education can help India to eradicate the looming problem.
